TAHLEQUAH — Rachael Christian’s RBI double to center in the bottom of the seventh lifted Northeastern State University to a 3-2 victory over East Central University in eight innings Saturday in the first game of a Lone Star Conference North softball doubleheader at Lady Reds Park.

NSU completed the sweep by pounding out nine hits and claiming a 7-1 decision in the second game.

With the two losses, ECU concluded its season at 5-29 overall and 1-23 in the LSC North. The Lady Reds improved to 26-18 and 15-9.

Game 1

NSU 3, ECU 2

The Lady Reds jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning before the Lady Tigers tied it up with a pair of runs in the sixth.

But NSU won it in the eighth when Shae Moore reached on an infield single before Christian doubled her home.

Stevie Bailey (6-8) got the pitching win for NSU, allowing no earned runs off five hits with four walks and seven strikeouts in eight complete innings of work.

Cara Gaskins (4-14) was once again the hard-luck loser after giving up only one earned run off five hits with three walks and three strikeouts in seven complete innings.

The only player to get multiple hits in the opener was Christian for NSU. She went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Game 2

NSU 7, ECU 1

Jessica Johnson (12-9) scattered eight hits, walked only one and fanned seven in capturing the pitching win.

The Lady Tigers’ only run was earned as Jessica Loftis singled home Jayme Miller in the third.

Miller and Melissa Stewart each went 2-for-4 from the plate for ECU while Kelli Dyson was 2-for-3.

Dyson (0-7) took the pitching loss after lasting only two innings to start the game. Amie Schmidt and Amanda Boyse also saw mound duty for the Lady Tigers.

Vanessa Cook went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored for the Lady Reds while Christian and Dee Tatum collected a pair of hits each in NSU’s nine-hit attack.
