ADA – Visitors to downtown Ada are in for lots of fun and excitement all day Saturday at the second annual June Bug Bash, presented by the Ada Main Street Program.

Along with all the other activities scheduled on Main Street, free entertainment will be provided on stage at Main and Broadway from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The June Bug Bash was introduced in 2005 to replace Ada Fest, which began more than 20 years ago as an arts and crafts festival in downtown Ada and became a popular event in May of each year. The June Bug Bash incorporates many of the activities of Ada Fest and several new activities, including a bass fishing tournament this year.

Entertainment on the Main and Broadway outdoor stage includes several familiar faces, along with a few new ones.

Janet Wilburn will sing the National Anthem again this year, along with a selection of gospel songs, to open the festivities.

Jerry Duncan, who stood on the street with his guitar and sang songs at the first Ada Arts and Crafts Festival and has helped with many of the festivals since then, will return with his band Saturday to close out the entertainment for the day from 4-5 p.m.

The schedule also includes another performance by the Valley View Regional Hospital Healthy Heart Club, dancing to popular tunes of today and yesteryear; martial arts demonstrations by students of both Tony Mondejar and Mike Holloway; and music by Jim and Cassie Miller, Clancy Davis, Gunshy (Megan Roberts, Stephanie Rhynes and Brittany Dawn Trail), Dwayne Yoesting, and Haley Miller, all popular entertainers from the Ada area.

Newcomers this year include John Henry, a young Gaar Corner minister who also loves to sing country music; Frank Mixon of Chickasha, former owner of the Harrah Theater, a live classic country music show; and Ginger Boles of Oklahoma City. Boles sings both Gospel and country music and has ministered with her music in 22 countries. She sings in Nashville, Tenn., Branson, Mo., and hosts her own weekly television program on Daystar Channel 11 in Norman.
