ADA - A source within the Ada School System said head football coach Steve Dean and three of his assistants were told by superintendent Pat Harrison in separate meetings Tuesday that he would recommend to the Ada School Board they all be stripped of their coaching duties.

The source said Harrison told the foursome he wouldn’t make the recommendation until the March 2008 meeting.

The assistants, who reportedly were called into Harrison’s office, were Greg Dean, John Higbee and Jeff Waters.

Harrison declined to comment until board decides to hear the issue at a board meeting. Harrison said the item was not scheduled at this time.

There was some discussion at last week’s board of education meeting about the coaches, but according to Harrison the rumors were not an issue.

“There was some discussion and someone thought there was going to be discussion at the board meeting about the future of some of the football coaches and that was not the case. There was never anything on the agenda regarding the coaches,” said Harrison.

There was some speculation by fans attending Tuesday night’s Ada-Ardmore basketball contest that the four coaches were fired but no school employee can be ousted without board approval.

Steve Dean is preparing to leave for San Antonio later this month to coach in the 2008 Army All-American Bowl. Dean was recently named the defensive coordinator for the West team at the all-star event.
