A successful longtime Stratford businessman has established a scholarship at East Central University that will benefit students from Garvin County or counties adjacent to Garvin County.

The Jack and Gladys Eldridge Endowed Scholarship will be presented for the first time next fall to an ECU junior or senior who is a full-time student in good academic standing.

Jack Eldridge, owner of Eldridge Propane Service in Stratford, said he established the scholarship to honor his family. His wife,

Gladys, his two brothers and a sister all are graduates of ECU.

“This is really thoughtful of Jack and his wife,” said Dr. Gerald Williamson, assistant vice president for advancement. "Their generous gift will allow us to present a very nice scholarship that is going to benefit people from now on by giving them an opportunity to go to school."

Faculty members will recommend candidates to the Foundation Scholarship Committee which will award the scholarship.
