East Central University’s human resources department is having trouble finding volunteers and donations to put on the City of Ada Thanksgiving Dinner.
“Every year, we put on the annual City of Ada Thanksgiving Dinner,” Cassie Hoyoe of ECU human resources said. Last year, Hoyoe said the dinner fed around 3,000 people.
“This year we’re having a hard time getting donations and volunteers for the event,” she said.
As the event is run entirely by donations and volunteers, Hoyoe said it is off to a slow start.
The Thanksgiving dinner is set for Nov. 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Pontotoc County Agri-plex.
Hoyoe said human resources needs volunteers for most of the day to help set up.
“A lot of local businesses participate,” she said. “Walmart is giving donations. Kentucky Fried Chicken, Long John Silver’s, a lot of churches in town and a lot of the banks are involved.”
Hoyoe said the Chickasaw Nation is sending volunteers and helping with transportation.
