ADA—Michael Echelle, director of Pontotoc County Health Department, reported to Pontotoc County commissioners Monday that the Health Department parking lot was nearing completion.
Earlier this year, a sugarcane beetle infestation damaged the joint sealant in the parking lot. Commissioners invoked an emergency clause to hire a contractor before inclement weather further damaged the parking lot.
“Alva Rue (Mackey) has not submitted an invoice to us yet, which tells me they’re probably still working on removing some of the joint sealant,” Echelle said.
Danny Davis, District 2 commissioner, said Mackey, the contractor hired to fix the lot, informed him the parking lot sealant was mostly completed and only finishing touches remained.
“(Mackey) said the parking lot was pretty much all done. They’re trying to seal around the sidewalks and the building,” Davis said.
Echelle said the beetles were no longer a problem.
Commissioners also resolved that Brenda Gilstrap, marketing and tourism director, move forward in planning an eight-week Pontotoc County bull riding series.
“This would be an eight-week series and would start Jan. 8,” Gilstrap said.
The event has not been formally proposed or planned but Gilstrap said she hopes to submit finalized plans to commissioners soon.
