Ada Firefighter Jason Hamilton shields his airways while being bombarded by heat, smoke and ashes while fighting a grass fire in the northwest section of Ada Wednesday. Hamilton used a shovel to cover hot spots with dirt while brush trucks extinguished the fire at the perimeters. The fire started between Bluff Street and J.A. Richardson Loop and spread south through a valley full of thick brush and surrounded by neighborhoods on three sides. Ada firefighters were assisted by firefighters from Byng and Pickett and were able to get it extinguished before it reached any houses.
