A semitruck spilled about 40 gallons of diesel fuel Friday morning on East 10th Street.

The truck was turning around in a driveway south of Leachco when the passenger’s-side saddle tank pushed into a pipe that was sticking up out of the ground, according to Assistant Fire Chief Rickey Ross. The pipe ruptured the tank, creating a 6-inch hole.

The driver then repositioned the truck across the road, scattering about 40 gallons of diesel fuel in the area, Ross said.

The fire department was dispatched to the scene at 8:16 a.m. and called Ada’s public works department for assistance, Ross said. City workers scattered a mixture of sand and crushed rock across the spilled fuel, making it easier for them to mop it up.

Officers from the Ada Police Department blocked that section of 10th Avenue while public works employees cleaned up the spill.
