ADA — KTGS 89.9, KTLS 106.5, KKFC 105.5, and Wal-Mart are teaming up for a “Thank the Firefighters Rally and Concert” in the Wal-Mart parking lot from 6-8 p.m. Saturday.

"The efforts of our Pontotoc County Volunteer Fire Fighters have saved many lives as well as millions of dollars in damages, and now they need our help,” Randall Christy of KTGS said. “We hope people all over the county will show up Saturday night to show their support for the fire fighters."

Christy said everyone so far has been very excited about helping, with donation boxes already set up at KTGS (in the PEC building on west main) and at KTLS/KKFC studios (in the north hills center).

"The volunteer fire departments need money for fuel, new tires, hoses, uniforms, and other equipment and supplies that have been damaged or destroyed in area fires,” he said. “Thousands of acres have burned. These men have spent many sleepless nights, only to get up and go to their jobs the next day.  We owe them a lot, and I'm glad we are all able to help."

Saturday night at the Wal-Mart parking lot, there will live Christian contemporary and gospel music and more according to Christy.

"Area preachers will be there to lead us in prayer for rain and protection for our firefighters,” he said, “We'll have a giant hopper which we will attempt to fill with money to be equally divided among the Pontotoc County Volunteer Fire Departments. Also several area merchants have donated prizes to give away through a drawing. There will be great music, prizes, fun and we will cheer on our firefighters."

The event begins at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday at the Wal-Mart parking lot. People are urged to take a lawn chair and a donation for the fire departments.
