ADA — Felony charges have been filed against August James Peters, 21, Pleasanton, Texas, accusing Peters of causing a personal injury accident involving great bodily injury while operating a motor vehicle. Peters is also accused of driving under the influence of intoxicating substances and leaving the scene of an accident with personal injuries. Peters, released on $100,000 bond, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 27.

Peters reportedly drove his 1993 Ford Bronco into the home of Larry and Rebecca Fleming in the early morning hours of May 18 while intoxicated, and left the scene after seriously injuring the two people inside. The Bronco was found parked behind a mobile home a few miles away, where Peters and his two passengers were also found less than an hour after the crash. According to officers, the vehicle had glass sheetrock and woodchips all over it and damage consistent with damage to the home. Paint transfer taken from the home matched the vehicle as well as tire tracks. According to OHP trooper Keith Teel, an empty beer can was also found at the crash site, purportedly left by the suspects at the time of impact.

Peters was read the Miranda warning, according to Teel, and admitted he was drunk and the driver of the vehicle. Peters said he left the scene without checking to see if anyone was hurt because he got scared, Teel reported. Larry Fleming was severely injured and is now stabilized.
