ADA — A new brochure about Ada soon will be available at the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce to tell about the city's history, unique features and well-known residents, including former Oklahoma Gov. and Sen. Robert S. Kerr.

The brochure was designed as part of a service learning project by students in Mitchelle Barton's Honors Composition I class at East Central University.

ECU, Wintersmith Park and the Chickasaw Nation are a few of the places featured in the brochure, along with a photograph of the 300 million-year-old petrified Callixylon located on the ECU campus.

Since the class hopes the brochure will be stocked in Welcome Centers around the state, a Visitor's Guide is included that lists several of Ada's unique restaurants and tourist attractions.

Barton said donations are paying to print the first 1,000 brochures, and donations still are welcome. Sponsors who donate $100 or more are listed in the brochure.

To make a donation, contact Barton at (580) 310-5430 or (580) 436-3376.

After the initial publication, the ownership of the brochure will be given to the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce.

Class members who worked on the brochure are Mandi Blue, Stephanie Cannon, Robin Carpenter, Elizabeth Cookson, Whitney Fletcher, Karena Gollihare, Daniell Hayes, Jessica Kinsella, Austin Martin, Barbara Miller, Jill Moore, Tony Nessman, Bobby Reed, Kara Scifres, Kristyn Smith, Shella Stewart and Trae Wilkins.
