With Governor-elect Mary Fallin’s announcement of Major Michael C. Thompson

as her selection for public safety commissioner, Department of Public Safety officials have been working to insure a smooth and seamless transition.

Following Fallin’s announcement earlier this week, Commissioner of Public Safety Kevin L. Ward met with his executive staff praising Thompson, and discussed the importance of a smooth and seamless transition in leadership.

“Mike has been an outstanding example of what it means to be a public servant of the highest order; not only through his service and leadership at the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, but also through his dedicated service to the Oklahoma National Guard, ” Ward said.

Thompson, a 20 year veteran of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has spent the past seven years serving as a zone commander. His experiences includes supervising nearly every highway patrol field command and special service division within the department.

“Mike is fully prepared for the job, and I have absolute confidence in his abilities. His leadership as commissioner will insure the agency continues to fulfill its mission of outstanding service to the public in a competent and professional manner,” Ward said.
