ADA — Oklahoma has experienced a record fire season already this year, and fire season is just beginning. Unfortunately, around 65 percent of fires in Oklahoma are contributed to arson, according to Sheldon Sankey, Chickasaw Agency Fire Management.

The cost to the Bureau of Indian Affairs to fight these wildland fires is more than $85 million annually. This does not include the cost of destruction to timber, government and private property, buildings and equipment.

You can help stop this destructive behavior by being alert and reporting suspicious activity.

To report information about an arson fire on Indian lands, contact the WeTip arson hotline at 1-800-47-ARSON.
