ADA — Nominations are now being taken for Ada's 2006 Distinguished International Citizen. To be eligible for the award an individual (or an adult in a family) must have been born outside the United States and have lived in Ada long enough to have distinguished themselves in some way. Nominations must be received (not postmarked) by Feb. 27. From the nominations received, a selection committee will select this year's Distinguished International Citizen. This person or family will be recognized at a banquet on the campus of East Central University on March 27.

To nominate someone, e-mail a nomination letter to Elaine Rhynes at or send a nomination letter to Elaine Rhynes, director of International Students and Programs, East Central University, 1100 East 14th Street, Ada, OK 74820. Nomination letters may also be faxed to Rhynes at (580) 310-5868 or delivered to her office in Room 160 of the Administration Building, ECU. The letter should include the person's name, country of origin and a description of why he or she should be recognized as Ada's 2006 Distinguished International Citizen. Individuals or families may be nominated.

Last year, Loretta Yin, artist, Realtor and community worker was recognized as Ada's first Distinguished International Citizen. The event is being presented as a joint effort of the ECU International Connection, ECU Students in Free Enterprise Team, ECU Rotaract Club, The Ada Rotary Club, Ada Sunrise Rotary Club, Ada High School Interact Club and Latta High School Interact Club.
