ADA — The Choctaw Nation Youth Healthy Lifestyle, recently annouced the winners of an essay contest on healthy living among Indian youth. David Scott, Ada, placed second. His essay will appear in the Choctaws Nation’s paper “The Bishink.

”The Oklahoma Council for Indian Education (OCIE) honored 645 outstanding high school and collegiate Native American students at the organization’s annual Oklahoma Indian Student Honor Society (OISHS) Indution and Banquet April 26.

Ada High School’s David Scott was awarded the Marlene LeClair/Helen Wright Scholarship. He was the first Ada High student to win any of the top three awards.

Three $700 scholarships, named in honor of an outstanding and committed Oklahoma Indian educator and active members of OCIE, were also presented. Kali K’Lynn Bassett of Grove High School was the recipient of the Alice Tonemah Memorial Scholarship. and Charbrice Rhea, of Westville High School, was presented the John Sam Memorial Scholarship. Scholarship based on essay, Academic record, and letters of recommendation.
