Pontotoc County’s 2011 Relay For Life Event on June 3 is drawing ever closer and this year’s committee is working hard to finalize plans.
“Relay Day is getting closer,” said Committee Chair Dawn Horton. “Everyone’s busy holding fundraisers and trying to get new teams to join. I’m confident Pontotoc County will once again join together to raise funds for the American Cancer Society and lead the charge in the fight against cancer.”
Committee members have been securing live entertainment to play until 2 a.m. the night of the relay and a disc jockey to play music overnight. Possible relay events include a rooster crowing contest when the sun comes up, a cancer-fighting superhero contest, themed laps and lap sponsorship.
The event at East Central University’s Norris Field will begin at 7 p.m. on June 3 and end at 7 a.m. the next morning.
Luminaries, candles in bags to represent those lost to cancer and to honor cancer survivors, will be placed around the track and lit at 9:30 p.m. Phone Keisha Brewer at (580) 332-6100 or e-mail her at email@example.com to purchase a luminary for $5. Luminaries with pictures are $10.
Winner of the Miss Relay Contest will be announced at 10:30 p.m.
