ADA—Pontotoc County Commissioners voted to establish a 911 fee for VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol).
VOIP is a system that allows people to use computers to make phone calls. Ada Emergency Management Director Gene Linton said fees are currently collected from land line and cellular phone users.
“We’re just following state statute that allows us to assess a fee for VOIP service,” Linton said. “VOIP customers will be helping to maintain the system like everyone else does.”
Linton said the fee for VOIP users and will be 50 cents per month.
Commissioners also accepted a bid from Nickerson Plumbing for $21,148.15 for heating and air conditioning units for the agri-plex.
