Ada City Council gathered Monday evening for the last regularly scheduled meeting of 2005.

During the brief meeting, council acknowledged and approved the receipt of a permit from the Department of Environmental Quality for the construction of a new sewer line. The Pine Street sanitary sewer main replacement project will include the construction of 960 linear feet of 18-inch sewer line.

Council also voted to pass an amendment to the existing city Code of Ordinances’ section 70-101, which outlines city speed limits. The amendment will provide the authority for the city manager to designate temporary speed limits for construction zones or special events.

Councilperson Barbara Young said, “I think this is a really good idea for safety reasons.”

City Manager David Hathcoat said the previous protocol for temporary speed limit changes came from a vote of council. The amendment will provide a much quicker change when needed. Hathcoat also said any temporary speed limit changes will be designated with appropriate warning signage.

Hathcoat presented an update to the progress of the armory museum renovation. He reported the roof is almost complete and inspection will begin soon. Upon completion of the new roof, the heat and air system will be addressed followed by handicap accessibility.
