COALGATE — The 2006-2007 school year is nearly to the halfway point! Coalgate Schools will host the second Parent/Teacher Conference Day of this school year Thursday, Nov. 9. Teachers will be available between 3:15-9:15 p.m. Appointments may be scheduled by calling the following: Wallace Byrd Middle School at (580) 927-3560 or 4021; E.E. Emerson Elementary at (580) 927-2350 or 2338; and Coalgate High School at (580) 927-2592. There will be no school Friday, Nov. 10.

The Coal County Public Library is pleased to participate in the 86th annual Children’s Book Week which takes place Nov. 13-19. The theme for 2006 is Imagine.

Programs at the library are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Nov. 14, Paula Carney and James Birdshead will present “Native American Folk Stories.”

“Multicultural Stories” will be presented by Nancy McAnally Friday, Nov. 17. Everyone is welcome.

Children’s Book Week is sponsored by The Children’s Book Council. “CBC encourages children and adults who care for them to spread the joy of reading by spending time with a book each day.”


For those who have not read “Magic Hour” by Kristen Hannah, there is still time to get a copy at the Coal County Public Library. “Magic Hour” was selected by the Coalgate Book Club as the November book-of-the-month.

The book will be discussed at the group’s monthly meeting Thursday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m. in the library meeting room.


The holidays seem to be approaching with astounding speed! It is nearly time once again for the annual Christmas Holiday Parade.

The 2006 parade will take place Saturday, Dec. 2, under the theme “Songs of the Season.” Any organization that would like to enter a float or vehicle is encouraged to contact Starla at (580) 927-2311 or Barbara at (580) 927-2261 for entry forms and guidelines on judging.
