COALGATE — Several upcoming events were discussed at the March meeting of the Coal County Chamber of Commerce. The annual city-wide cleanup day is scheduled for Saturday, April 8. For those in the process of spring cleaning, April 8 would be a good day to set as your goal to have unwanted items ready to haul off. The city will assist and try to make it as convenient as possible for everyone to get rid of trash and other unwanted items. If everyone would take pride in their little corner of the world, the cumulative effect will be a cleaner community to be proud of.

The annual Coal County garage sale day is scheduled for Saturday, June 3. For those with items they no longer need but that are too good to throw out, save them for June 3. Garage sale fees are waived on that date.

It seems early to be thinking about July 4, but now is the time to begin planning if Coalgate is to have festivities bigger and better than those in the past. Groups and organizations are encouraged to participate in the parade and to set up booths at the park.

The Chamber of Commerce welcomes new members. There will be an “eat and meet” at the next meeting, Thursday, April 27 at noon at the Community Park Building. Members or those interested in joining are invited to attend.

A few reminders: The Coal County Clerk’s office will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, March 29 and 30 so the clerk and her deputies may attend a required workshop.

March 31 is the deadline to pay the second half of property taxes before penalties are imposed.

Daylight Savings Time begins April 2 (Spring forward), and the run-off election for the school board position is Tuesday, April 4. Candidates are Jennifer Horton and Amy Vaughn-Mauk.
