Local civic groups have been working together to present Ada’s Fourth of July celebration to take place Monday at Wintersmith Park.
Sunrise Rotary, Lions Club, area Kiwanis Clubs and area church youth groups, with the assistance of Ada Police Department and Ada Fire Department, are all working together for the event.
“A big job divided into pieces becomes a small job,” said John Garber of Lions Club. “With everyone’s volunteer effort it just becomes a fun day.”
Garber said Ada’s Independence Day celebration is “Ada’s laughing place.”
Festivities begin at 7:30 a.m. with the Fireball Classic five kilometer and 10 kilometer runs.
“There are water fights, a fire hose, turtle racing and everything,” Garber said.
He said all events are free.
Lions Club is in charge of Children’s Olympics.
“We have all sorts of crazy games with jelly bean spitting, hula hoops and watermelon,” he said.
The event ends with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. Garber said over $10,000 of fireworks will be used in the show.
