Christmas with a Cop returns to Ada

Christmas with a Cop will return to Ada Dec. 16.

The program pairs underprivileged children with police officers to spend a day shopping and socializing.

The event is hosted by the Ada Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary. Organizers say Christmas with a Cop is a one-on-one experience designed to have uniformed police officers spend a day with underprivileged children while socializing, shopping and providing guidance during the holiday season.

Children who will participate this year, 13 in all, were selected from a local school. School personnel chose kids who are most in need of a positive experience with officers.

In the past, the event has featured Ada police officers exclusively. This year, two Chickasaw Lighthorse police officers will join as well.

The kids will have breakfast with officers before the event. Amanda Mericle, president of the Ada Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary, said Santa will visit with the kids during the breakfast.

The event is funded by donations. Those wishing to donate can reach the auxiliary by email at, or visit their Facebook page at Donations can also be made at Ada Police Department, 301 S. Townsend St.

Those who have already donated to the event include Ada Coca-Cola, Seth Wadley Auto Group, Pigskins BBQ, Wal-Mart, East Central University, McDonald’s, Ram Jack and Vision Bank.
