ADA — Capt. Danielle Owens Delint, daughter of Cecilia Austin, Ada, and the late Daniel E. Owens, will depart Feb. 27 to Camp Shelby, Miss., to prepare for a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan.

Delint is a 1985 graduate of Byng High School, 2002 graduate of Eastern Oregon University with a bachelor’s in economics and a 2005 graduate of the University of Phoenix with a master’s in organizational management.

Delint began her military career in the United States Navy in 1986. In 1994, she completed her Navy time and moved to Oregon and joined the Oregon Army National Guard. In 1999, she received a commission as a second lieutenant in the Oregon Army National Guard.She deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2001 and was hired on active Guard Reserve in 2002. She was the 141 SB S1 from 2002-2004, while in this position she was promoted to captain in 2003. From 2004-2006, she worked as the budget/finance officer for the 41st Brigade Combat Team. She works as the budget officer Monday through Friday, drill weekends and while at annual training she command A Company.

Upon receipt of the mobilization order, Delint has transferred full time to Company Command and continues to prepare Company A for the yearlong deployment. Her company is designated as supply and transportation.

The supply operations in country will consist of warehouse operations (receiving, procuring, storage and issuing of supplies), fueling operations, ammunition operations and transportation. Logistical support will be given to the U.S. forces on post and the Coalition nd Afghan National Army forces.

Among the many states providing soldiers for this deployment in addition to Oregon is Oklahoma.

Delint has two children. Her son, Ladd, is 13, and daughter, Fallon, is 11.



Tyler Young

ADA — Marine Corps Pvt. Tyler W. Young, son of Sonya G. and Scott W. Young, Ada, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif. designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally.

Young and fellow recruits began their training at 5 a. m., by running three miles and performing calisthenics. In addition to the physical conditioning program, Young spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments which included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. They performed close order drill and operated as a small infantry unit during field training.

Young and fellow recruits ended the training phase with The Crucible, a 54-hour, team evolution culminating in an emotional ceremony in which recruits are presented the Marine Corps Emblem, and addressed as "Marines" for the first time in their careers.

Jeremy Renfroe

ADA — Air Force Airman Jeremy R. Renfroe has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Renfroe is the son of Melissa and Donald Pardue, Ada.

The airman is a 2005 graduate of Ada High School.



Jennifer Stephens

SULPHUR — Navy Lt. j. g. Jennifer J. Stephens, daughter of Rita Jo Lansford and Lewie A. O'Neal, both of Sulphur, and her fellow shipmates are in the middle of a scheduled deployment while assigned to the amphibious transport dock USS Austin, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

USS Austin deployed with Expeditionary Strike Group 8 to 5th Fleet Area of Operations to conduct Maritime Security Operations.

MSO sets the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment, as well as complements the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations. MSO denies international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other materials.

USS Austin is a warship that embarks, transports and lands elements of a landing force for expeditionary warfare missions. Amphibious landing docks are generally designed to use landing craft to transport troops into a war zone.

Stephens is a 1994 graduate of Sulphur High School and joined the Navy in December 2002.
