ADA — Ada Business and Professional Women’s Organization hosts an “Unhappy Hour” from 5:15-6:15 p.m. today at Polo’s Mexican Restaurant in the Fiesta Room.

Every year in April, Business and Professional Women/USA and hundreds of other organizations representing women, civil rights, labor and communities, team up with the National Committee on Pay Equity to call attention to the issue of equal pay for equal work which contains to be an issue of economic justice for women and minorities, and an issue which affects our families, our children and our grandchildren. Pay Equity means the criteria employers use to set wages must be sex and race neutral.

According to the 2005 U.S. Census Bureau, women are paid an average of 77 cents for every dollar their male counterparts are paid; a gap of 23 cents. Polo’s Mexican Restaurant has agreed to offer a 23 percent discount to the first 50 women to arrive at this event; men are encouraged to attend, but will not be receiving a discount.

Sponsors say everyone is invited to stay, eat and enjoy a “Happy Hour” with Ada Business and Professional Women after the event from 6-7 p.m.
