ADA — Ada Area Chamber of Commerce received 40 blank census forms Thursday.

Billie Floyd, United States Census Bureau employee, said the decennial census is not the only form the Census Bureau sends out.  Floyd said there are some scam surveys going around but it’s important to fill out the official Census Bureau surveys.

“(The Current Population Survey) is the one the labor department gets their information on who’s working, who’s not working and who has lost their job,” she said.  “(Residents) are so confused because they think there’s only one survey to do.  There are other legitimate surveys being carried out by the Census Bureau.”

Floyd said the information gathered by these surveys is important to the community, state and nation, whether it’s used to determine labor force in the area or determine representation in government.  Among the legitimate surveys conducted by the US Census Bureau are the American Community Survey, Consumer Expenditure Survey, Current Population Survey, National Crime Victimization Survey, National Health Interview Survey and Survey of Income and Program Participation.
