Christian recording artists Rebecca, Alyssa and Lauren Barlow, known together as BarlowGirl, are hitting the road this season and taking the world’s largest Christmas project along with them.
BarlowGirl will feature Operation Christmas Child in its An Acoustic Winter’s Night concert tour and is encouraging Ada concert attendees to pack shoe boxes with small toys, hygiene items and school supplies for needy children around the world. BarlowGirl concert takes place at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14 at McSwain Theatre, 130 W. Main.
BarlowGirl encourages its fans to pack a gift-filled shoe box to be sent by Operation Christmas Child. Shoe box gifts collected at Ada drop-off sites during National Collection Week, Nov. 15-22, will be sorted and sent using whatever means necessary — sea containers, trucks, trains, airplanes, boats, camels, even dog sleds and horse-drawn wagons — to reach suffering children around the world.
Earlier this year, BarlowGirl traveled to Belize to hand-deliver simple Operation Christmas Child shoe box gifts to children. The experience impacted their hearts, and they decided to feature Operation Christmas Child on their winter tour.
“The second we started handing out the gifts and I got to see those kids’ faces, everything changed. Now that was a moment that I will never forget,” Lauren Barlow said. “The squeals and giggling and smiles were the most beautiful things I had ever seen or heard. I fell in love with those kids that day.”
“Something that was so simple to us Americans meant the world to these kids. It humbled me to no end and just melted my heart,” Lauren Barlow said. “All I know is I will be packing shoe boxes for a long time, because I’ve seen firsthand what a simple gift does in the lives of children around the world. And getting to see that will stay in my heart as long as I live.”
