ADA — African-American folk tales will be presented today at East Central University as part of "Lift Every Voice" events celebrating February as Black History Month.

ECU students Atiera Currie and Elmer Cunningham will narrate and act out the stories beginning at 6 p.m. in the Linscheid Library Atrium. The event is open to the public, including children, at no charge.

Storytelling was the way African-American history was passed down through the generations, Currie said.

"We will have an introduction to explain how important storytelling is because of our culture," Currie said. "Much of our history was not documented and goes back much further than our history in America."

"Lift Every Voice" events are planned throughout February by ECU's Association of Black Students.
