Many Americans spent Memorial Day the same way as every year, but Ada resident William Verdo Hooker Jr., 79, and seven of his family members including his two daughters and wife Lorraine Hooker spent their holiday on a remarkable adventure to Belgium visiting his father’s grave.

Hooker’s father, William Verdo Hooker Sr., was a Private First Class Infantryman in World War II and died Dec. 24, 1944, in the Battle of the Bulge at age 35. He was buried in American Military Cemetery Henri-Chapelle.

Vicki Cearnal, one of Hooker’s two daughters, was on vacation in Europe 18 months ago and visited the grave site of her grandfather where she met employees of the cemetery who told her to visit the Remember Museum located on site.
