ADA - Ada City Council members voted Monday night to sell property in the 300 block of East 10th St., on the north side of the road next to the abandoned railroad tracks, to Leachco, Inc., in the amount of $63,000.

Council members voted in a previous meeting, during an executive session, to approve the sale. Upon council approval the notice had to be advertised for 30 days. Since no individuals came forward with any objections or interest in the property, council members went ahead with the motion to sell the land.

The council also approved a request to close a public easement and right-of-way located along part of Corona St. and Finley Ave. The streets were never completely plotted and are located East of Monte Vista, close to the Golf and Games location. Owners of the property plan to construct a building park.

The Planning and Zoning Committee recommended to council to approve the use of property, located at 2717 North Broadway, for a day care facility.

“Looking over the notes from the Planning and Zoning Committee meeting, it appears that most residents of the community would be in favor of having a child care center in this location,” said Darrell Nemecek, city council member.

David Hathcoat, city manager, announced the dates for city council filing and elections. Candidates can file for the election from Feb. 4, 2008, starting at 8 a.m. until Feb. 6, 2008, ending at 5 p.m. The primary election will be held on Tuesday March 4, 2008 and if needed the general election will be on Tuesday April 1, 2008.

During the Ada Public Works Authority meeting, council members voted to approve a request from the Ada Aviation Association for permission to mount a display aircraft at the entrance of the Ada Municipal Airport. It will be the responsibility of the AAA to maintain the display. It was not in the request to include display lighting for the airplane and some of the council members requested the possibility of lighting the display for night time viewing be considered.
