Body Found

Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office Investigator Leroy Johnson speaks with Ada police Thursday after a body was found in a wooded area near the intersection of 18th and Turner streets.

Ada police continue to investigate the remains of a decomposing body found in a wooded area near 18th and Turner streets in southeast Ada Thursday.

Authorities confirmed the body to be that of a female, but say given the advanced stage of decomposition they have not yet determined the woman’s age.

Police confirmed that an identification card was found on or near the body.

Assistant Police Chief Tracy Jackson said, given the state of decomposition, investigators felt it would be premature to say for certain that any ID found belonged to the woman.

“There’s nothing at this point to indicate foul play or that would motivate us to call the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation,” Jackson said. “We did some more follow up at the scene today, so obviously that could change if we find something during the investigation, but for now the investigation is very much a work in progress.”

Jackson said police will continue their investigation while they await a conclusive identification from dental records by the medical examiner.
