Stacy Tornio, author of “Cathy’s Animal Garden,” will be signing copies of her new book Thursday evening, July 29, at Ada Public Lilbrary. In addition to reading a portion of her book, she will play games and award prizes during the event.
An Ada native and 1999 Byng High School graduate, Tornio lives in Milwaukee, Wis. with her husband, Steve, and two children, Jack and Anna. She attended East Central University for one semester before moving to the University of Oklahoma and then eventually the University of Wisconson-Milwaukee where she studied journalism.
“I’ve been writing children’s stories for about seven years or so, but this is my first success,” Tornio said. “It’s been a fun, but hard, road. As a day job, I used to be a newspaper reporter and now work in the magazine business for Reader’s Digest-Milwaukee as the editor of Birds & Blooms magazine. Birds & Blooms is the largest magazine of its kind in the country with 1.7 million readers, and it really sparked an interest in gardening for me. Now I’m a certified Master Gardener and teach gardening classes for kids on volunteer basis.”
“I started writing children’s stories in college, long before I had my own children (now ages 6 and 4),” Tornio said.
