ECU softball team sweeps unbeaten OBU

Ada —  

 In the first home games for the East Central University softball team in the 2013 season, the Lady Tigers earned two run-rule wins over an undefeated Oklahoma Baptist team at Lady Tiger Field.  ECU won the first game in five innings 11-0 and then earned an 8-0 win, in five innings.

The Lady Tigers (12-4) were led by sophomore Lauren Bancroft, who tallied four hits, scored five runs and added two RBIs for a 1.000 average in two games.  ECU also had eight other batters hit over .500 for the game, including five hitting .667. 

Senior Ali Manship earned a complete-game win in the opening game of the series, allowing two hits and striking out four batters.  Sophomore Lacey Paulk threw the second game for ECU, earning the win on two hits and four strikeouts.  Both pitchers combined for a team ERA of 0.00 for the two wins.

The Lady Tigers will look to open Great American Conference action this weekend at Southwestern Oklahoma State.  ECU and the Lady Bulldogs are scheduled to play double-headers, Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2.  Friday’s games are slated to begin at 2 p.m., with Saturday’s contests starting at 11 a.m.

    Gabe Simons jump-started the Ada offense with his three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the second before the Cougars pushed across six more runs in the bottom of the fourth, sending Sulphur packing 9-1 Thursday evening at Cougar Field.

Across the way at the A-Town Barber Shop, barber Erick Gray did not even know he owned the record of 146, much less that someone was breaking it.

    The East Central University softball team clinched a spot in the 2014 Great American Conference Tournament with a sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday in Weatherford. The Lady Tigers (25-20, 17-15 GAC) first defeated the Bulldogs (11-33, 7-25 GAC) 9-7 and then 9-0 in five innings in the second day of the series.
