ECU men travel to Durant to take on Southeastern Oklahoma

The East Central University men’s basketball team will renew one of the longest rivalries in school history, Thursday, Feb. 28 when they travel to Durant, Okla., to face Southeastern Oklahoma State at 7:30 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.


Scouting Southeastern

The Savage Storm head into Thursday’s meeting with a 14-10 overall and 10-8 record in the Great American Conference after winning their last two games.  Southeastern has been solid at home, going 10-2 so far in 2012-13.

The Savage Storm have two players who are averaging over 10 points per game.  Chris Roussell nets 15.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, while shooting .498 from the field, .433 from beyond the arc and adding 82 assists.  Steven Kohli adds 12.1 points and 8.0 boards per outing, while shooting .414 from the floor.

 Southeastern has a plus 5.3 scoring and  plus 3.4 rebounding margin for the season and is shooting .451 from the field.  They are allowing their opponents to score 40.5 percent of their overall shots.


Against the Savage Storm

In the first GAC meeting between ECU and Southeastern this season, the Tigers claimed a 68-67 win at the Kerr Activities Center. The teams were close in all areas of the stat sheet, with ECU earning the win with three more made triples and four more free throws.

Junior Colby Carr led the Tigers with 23 points and 11 rebounds.  Fellow junior Gregory Ardister added 14 points and 10 boards.

 Steven Kohli and Chris Roussell led the Savage Storm. Kohli tallied 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Roussell added 14 points and 10 boards.


The Series

The all-time series with Southeastern is one of the longest in school history, dating back to the 1927-28 season. The teams have played all but four seasons, with two of those being because of World War II. In 164 battles, both teams have earned 82 wins.
