Latta girls to open consolation contest

Latta —

Latta girls will face  Amber-Pocasset in area consolation bracket play

The 18th-ranked Lady Panthers will try to avoid elimination as they face Amber-Pocasset in a 6:30 p.m. area consolation bracket contest on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Anadarko.

Latta is 19-9 and coming off a 75-49 thrashing of Snyder on Saturday in the regional consolation finals at Minco. Nelaina Baker fired in 29 points and pulled down eight rebounds and Carlee Henderson contributed 14 points and 13 assists. Laramie Edens, like Henderson, had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Amber-Pocasset, 23-4 and ranked 12th, had won 16 straight games before falling to second-ranked Dale, 34-24, in the regional finals on Saturday. The loss prior to that streak was to Class A top-ranked Okarche.

Should the Lady Panthers defeat Am-Po, they would battle the Cordell-Rush Springs survivor at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The area consolation title game is set for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. as the winner will go to state as the area runner-up.

Latta has won eight of its last 10 games.
