Accomplishments of the 2012 Ada Cougars were plentiful

Ada —

Editor’s Note: Ada Cougars statistician Mick ‘Voice of the Cougars’ Cowan put his accounting professor pen to paper and keys to computer to list the rewriting of the record book by the 2012 Cougars.

The most important things about playing football are the lessons learned and the bonds established with teammates as young men come together as a team to accomplish goals.

The 2012 Ada Cougars will go down in history as a great group of very unselfish young men who pulled together despite great adversity to put together a remarkable season.

Below are some of the accomplishments of this group of young men in terms of things that can be quantified. Much more important are the intangible qualities that they demonstrated.

The most important records obviously are those set by the team, although no individual records are the result of the individual who sets them. No one breaks records by himself.

With that said, here is a list of these young men’s accomplishments in 2012:

     • The points scored of 582 fell just 1 point short of the record scored by the 1994 Cougars. The average points scored of 44.7 also ranks second behind the 45.2 average of the 1954 Cougars.

     • The total offense of 5,547 ranks second to the 5,633 by the 1991 squad. However, the 1991 crew played 15 games and their average was 375.7 while the 2012 team averaged  430.5, ranking number one all-time.

     • The 10-0 regular season matched the undefeated marks of the teams from 1951, 1954, 1957, 1970, 1994, 1995 and 1999.

     • The 12 wins upped the all-time record for Ada to 766 wins with 307 losses and 24 ties.

     • The 2012 team became the 53rd team of Ada Cougars to qualify for the playoffs.

     • The district championship was number 44 for Ada.

     • The two playoff wins gives Ada a state record total of 104.

     • For the first time in the incredible history of Cougar football, the 2012 Cougars had three players who scored over 100 points: Easton Pingleton with 162; Mason Girdley with 128; and John Stout with 119.
