Walker Whitworth and Jake Boone collected two hits apiece, but it wasn’t enough on Friday as the Ada Cougars dropped a 6-5 decision to Lone Grove on Friday in the Ardmore-Lone Grove Showcase.
Whitworth went 2-for-4 with a double, one run batted in and a run scored while Boone was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs for Ada, which was held to six hits.
The Cougars’ other two hits came from Micah Simmer, who was 1-for-2 with one RBI and a run scored, and Scott Johnson, who went 1-for-3 and scored a run.
Lone Grove scored three first-inning runs, led 4-1 after two innings and had a 6-4 advantage through three frames.
Ada pulled within one in the seventh on Boone’s run-scoring single.
Dalton Wolf took the pitching loss as he worked six complete innings, allowing 11 hits, walking none and striking out two. All six Lone Grove runs were earned.
Boone’s RBI groundout got the Cougars on the board in the second inning. The three-run third inning was highlighted by back-to-back RBI singles by Whitworth and Simmer.
Ada committed three errors in the game, while Lone Grove had none.
“The kids played hard. We just came up a little short,” said Ada head coach Elliott Alberson.
