Cougar baseball team wallops Wynnewood

Pauls Valley —    The Ada High baseball team erupted for 13 runs in the top of the second and buried Wynnewood 19-1 Friday afternoon in the consolation semifinals of the Jeff Davis Memorial Tournament in Pauls Valley.

Ada, No. 20 in Class 4A, improved to 4-2 while Wynnewood fell to 1-4.

Ada rebounded from a tough 7-4 loss to No. 19 Bethany on Thursday.

“It was a more complete game,” said Ada head coach Elliott Alberson.“We got a good effort on the mound and we swung the bats well.”

The Cougars scored twice in the top of the first when Micah Simmer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and DH Tristan Doffin had an RBI single.

The floodgates opened for Ada in its big second-inning explosion.

Scott Johnson cracked a three-run homer and had a two-RBI double in the uprising, while Walker Whitworth belted a two-run round-tripper.

Jake Boone drove in two runs in the inning, while Doffin added his second RBI single of the contest. The Cougars were also added by three walks and two hit batters.

Reid Kinder led off the third inning with a double and later scored on a groundout by Johnson. Whitworth followed with an RBI single to push Ada’s lead to 17-0.

Zac Radford supplied an RBI double in the top of the fourth to drive in Cason Teel, who had led off with a base hit. Radford would score Ada’s 19th run on Kane Moore’s RBI single.

Johnson led an 18-hit Ada barrage, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, six RBIs and three runs scored. Whitworth also finished 3-for-4 and drove in three runs.

Wolf, Boone, Doffin and Kinder all contributed two hits apiece.

Oshawv Frazier earned the mound win. He struck out five and walked just one in four strong innings of work.
