Tigers split double-header with OBU in first conference games

The East Central University baseball team split the final two games of the three-game series with Ouachita Baptist, in the first Great American Conference games of the 2013 season.

The Tigers (5-7, 1-2 GAC) recorded 26 hits to 22 by OBU in the two games.  Senior Justin Gibson led ECU with four hits, a .667 batting average and two RBIs.  Junior Jake Caton added five hits and an RBI, while junior Ethan Gold had four hits, including a grand slam, and six RBIs.

Senior Gabriel Martinez earned the win on the mound in game two of the day, with an ERA of 0.00 in two innings of work and two strike outs.  Senior Sam Malchar suffered the loss in the opening game after allowing seven hits and striking out one batter.

The Tigers will host Oklahoma City, Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Tiger Field for one game starting at 2 p.m. before heading to Henderson State for a three-game series, Feb. 22-23.
