NOTEWORTHY: Reid Wall allowed just one hit over five innings and went 3-for-3 from the plate with two runs batted in and a run scored as Byng pounded Purcell, 12-2, in a five-inning Class 4A District playoff game on Thursday. Wall gave up four walks and struck out nine. Both runs were earned off a two-run homer by Dominique Gavia in the first inning. Whitey Fortner went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in the second inning as he finished with three runs batted in and three runs scored. Joe Nemecek was 2-for-2 with a two-run blast in the first inning. The victorious Pirates ended up with 10 hits and overcame a 2-0 deficit with a six-run second inning. Byng added two in the fourth inning and scored four times in the fifth as Andre Davis’ walk-off RBI double ended it. Sawyer Walton, Fortner and Wall each had run-scoring singles in that fifth.

NOTEWORTHY: Shawn Treat fired a four-hit shutout as the Byng Pirates pounded out 16 hits in an 11-0 victory, two-game sweep of Purcell and a Class 4A district title on Thursday. Treat worked all seven innings, allowing only one walk and striking out 13. Darian Davis ignited Byng’s hitting attack by going 4-for-5 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Whitey Fortner and Andre Davis each went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Fortner drove home two runs, and Andre Davis knocked in one. Hunter Capps and Joe Nemecek were each 2-for-4, as Capps had an RBI triple and scored a run. Nemecek doubled once. Josh Morris added an RBI double for the winners.
