Latta girls get in Class 4A State Tournament

OKEMAH —    Jordyn Scott hit a three-run homer while Maebree Abney and Savanna Humphrey collected three hits apiece as Latta advanced to the Class 4A state slow-pitch softball tournament as the regional runner-up by earning a 12-2 decision over Konawa on Thursday.

   Scott’s three-run blast came in the fourth inning. Maebree Abney went 3-for-4 from the plate with a double, two runs batted in and two runs scored, while Humphrey was 3-for-3 with one RBI and scored twice as the Lady Panthers compiled 13 total hits.

   Matison Worcester contributed to the Latta offense by going 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored. Scott was 1-for-1 with her blast.    Madison Abney and Chelsea Alexander also had a triple apiece for the Lady Panthers.

   Bailey Eckert allowed just two runs off 11 hits for the win. Brooke Snow took the loss for Konawa.

   Shelby Campbell went 3-for-3, Mahaley Larney was 2-for-2 and Dominique Lyon went 2-for-3 and scored a run for the Lady Tigers.


   Okemah 9, Latta 1

   Okemah pounded out eight hits and jumped on Latta with three runs in the first and four more in the third.

   Latta’s only run came off a Shelby Parnacher sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.

   Latta ended up with only four hits.

   First Round

   Latta 7, Oktaha 1

   Eckert hit a two-run triple in the sixth inning and picked up the pitching victory, allowing just seven hits as Latta earned the first-round win.

   The Lady Panthers ended up with eight hits as Humphrey went 1-for-2 with one RBI and a run scored. Eckert finished 1-for-3 with her two RBIs, and Scott was also 1-for-3 with a double, one RBI and a run scored.

   Latta scored three runs in the first inning and tallied the other four in the sixth.

   The Lady Panthers advance to the 4A state tournament against top-ranked Dale at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Firelake Softball Complex in Shawnee.
