Ada — The Ada Cougars closed out the 2014 soccer season on a winning note Tuesday night and celebrated Senior Night with a 2-0 victory over Chickasha.
Todd Penick and Ruslan Hinson tallied the Ada goals as the Cougars (5-6) finished fourth in the district, one spot away from qualifying for a playoff berth.
Three Ada seniors — Jeremiah Larry, Chase Lott and Hinson — were honored in their final match as the Cougars tallied one goal in each half.
Penick opened the scoring in the first half with a shot from 35 yards out off a set piece.
Hinson’s score came late in the game off another set piece as his bending shot into the upper left corner of the net came from 20 yards out.
Ada’s goalkeepers — Kobe Bellard and Marwin Dickerson — combined for the shutout, registering nine saves.
“We had good and bad this year, but I am proud of the work of this young group and have high hopes for next year,” said Ada head coach Tom Morrison.
Lady Cougars fall to Chickasha
ADA – The Ada High School girls’ soccer team had their Senior Night spoiled as Chickasha came away with a 3-0 decision Tuesday over the host Lady Cougars.
It was the final home match for seniors Roudee Humphers, Isabel Gutierrez, Amaris Smitherman, Taylor Mitchell and Brooklyn Cupps, who all started, and reserves Madison Cartwright and Michelle Williams.
“I felt like we were ready to play this game. The girls had a great practice Monday, and I felt like we had fixed some things in the film session as we studied our previous Madill game,” said Ada head coach Cole Jones. “Overall, it was a tough loss, but the girls fought very hard in what was one of the most physical games I’ve seen with girls soccer. I am proud to say that we have a group of extremely tough girls playing on this team.”
