Cougars finally beat Glenpool

(Continued)

Ada —

Ada hung tough, but two more touchdowns by Glenpool QB Chris Neal (The Captain) sealed it, 48-28. Behind the Captain and Tennial the Warriors went on to win state.

2003: Not in Our House

Further proof was lent to the belief that Glenpoolies do not pay much attention to press clippings, nor signs for that matter.

‘Not in Our House’ signs and banners greeted the Warriors in their first-ever trip to Ada and Norris Field.

Glenpool looked as if they owned the house at 21-7 nearing halftime. Then the Johnson twins set off the fireworks. Jerry returned a kick-off 54 yards to set up twin Kerry’s 43-yard scoring run to cut it to 20-14 at the half.

K.J. then went one up on Jerry with a 96-yard kickoff return for the TD and a one-point gap. But, alas, GP would score two more times to clip the Cougars, 35-28.

2012: Glenpool down, out

Tough times had arrived at Glenpool by the time the series was renewed a year ago when Ada dropped to 4A and into the Warriors’ district.

Undefeated Ada matched up against a visiting Glenpool squad at 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the district.

The final was 48-7 and came on a night on which Easton Pingleton would tie the Ada record with six TDs — all in the first half. Ol’ No. 3 caught the kickoff and sailed to the end zone for an 86-yard TD. It was just the beginning of a long, long night in Ada for Glenpool.

Pingleton scored each time he touched the football; on the kickoff, an 81-yard fumble return, on 80 and 54-yard passes from Wyatt Robson, a 30-yard interception return. The sixth and final touch came on another TDP from Robson, a 38-yarder.

In an eerie reflection on the 2004 season, Ada lost offensive tackle Cody Johnson to a motorcycle accident in the days before the second playoff game. Almost magically a block A appeared at midfield on Norris Field in honor of No. 56, just as it had in 2004 in honor of No. 60 Cody Bolin, who was lost in a vehicular accident. Jersey No. 60 was retired. No. 56 has not been at this point.
