Tim McCarty will enter his fifth season — between two stints — as head coach of the East Central University football team. He’s had some strong recruiting classes during his past seasons as the Tigers’ head man, including a group that went 8-3 in 2011.
But McCarty didn’t mince words when he released the list of 30 players that ECU signed to letters of intent on Wednesday. This is his best group of prospects ever.
“We feel like we have a great class. I feel very comfortable in saying it’s the best class since I’ve been here,” McCarty said.
He even went a step further and said this group could be the best both on and off the field.
“The thing that’s unique about this class is the character of these kids matches the ability — which is very rare and really hard to get," he said. "We feel like we’ve done a great job. We got our message out about who we are and who we want to be ... and we ended up with a terrific class.”
The breakdown of the class looks like this: six defensive backs, four defensive linemen, four wide receivers, three outside linebackers, two quarterbacks, two tight ends, two offensive linemen, two running backs, two defensive ends, two inside linebackers and a long snapper.
