NOTEWORTHY: Randy Brown’s sacrifice fly scored pinch-runner Matt Blackburn in the bottom of the 10th as Stratford edged Elmore City-Pernell 7-6 Friday in a first-round Class A district baseball contest. The Bulldogs overcame seven errors and held a 9-8 edge in total hits. Chris Kozak got the win in relief of Brown, who worked the first five innings. Reece Reynolds went 3-for-5 and knocked in two runs, and Kozak was 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. Brown went just 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, but he was walked three times. Chase Bradstreet had one double, drove home two runs and scored twice.

NOTEWORTHY: The Bulldogs pounded out a whopping 21 hits and overcame 10 massive errors in outlasting Maysville in a Class A district game. Dakota Noland went 4-for-5 and drove in a run, and Chris Kozak was 3-for-5 with a homer, four runs batted in and five runs scored for Stratford. Chase Bradstreet also went 3-for-5 with a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored. Drake Kelley also went 3-for-5. Winning pitcher Kyle Wright (3-1) surrendered just seven hits and helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 from the plate with one RBI. Randy Brown had just one hit, but he knocked in four runs off a sacrifice fly, fielder’s choice and a two-run double.

    Gabe Simons jump-started the Ada offense with his three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the second before the Cougars pushed across six more runs in the bottom of the fourth, sending Sulphur packing 9-1 Thursday evening at Cougar Field.

    As senior Walker Whitworth was bombing in the final five 3-point shots of his remarkable Ada High career, he was resetting the school’s triples record at 151. Across the way at the A-Town Barber Shop, barber Erick Gray did not even know he owned the record of 146, much less that someone was breaking it.
