Duncan coming to town Friday

Ada Cougar Football

Ada —

Ada pretty much made a statement in last year’s scrimmage at Duncan. The Cougars battled very successfully with the Demons, rolling up 289 yards behind QBs Wyatt Robson and Tryce Prince. It went a long way in setting the tone for Ada’s entry into Class 4A and a 12-1 state semifinals season.

Duncan comes to town Friday for a scrimmage at the Craig McBroom Football Complex with the junior high kicking off at 5:30 p.m.

Last year’s scrimmage was quite a turnaround since the last meeting, a 45-7 blitz by home-standing Duncan in the first-round of the Class 5A 2011 playoffs. The score was the worst playoff defeat for Ada ever.

It also evened the all-time series. Through the years the Cougars and the Demons have been even steven at 16 wins each.

Duncan remains in 5A with Ada in the second year of 4A and likely to stay there.

Like two of Ada’s three non-district games — Ardmore and Durant — the Demons are up a class from the Cougars.

The Demons are tied with Ardmore for third in balloting by district coaches. Lawton Mac and Del City are picked one-two respectively in Class 5A-1.

DHS head coach Jim Holloway will no doubt be emphasizing his completely new defensive line in the scrimmage.

The veteran coach of three championship teams at Wynnewood during the Tony Levy and James Allen eras, Holloway followed that stand with several years at Altus before settling in at Duncan.

He will also be trying to decide between three quarterback candidates in seniors Connor Kelly and Cody Hood and junior Mason Hightower.

While Ada was rolling to its best season since 2004 last year, Duncan posted a down year, going 6-5.

Duncan was predicted to finish third in its district in a preseason coaches poll.
