Cougars nearly upset 5A Noble

NOBLE —      The Ada Cougars came ever-so-close to pulling off a big upset on the road Tuesday night.

But host Noble — ranked No. 5 in Class 5A — rallied twice, the latter of which came with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, to edge the Cougars 10-9 in a wild high school baseball contest.

Ada led 7-5, entering the bottom of the sixth when Noble scored three runs to go up 8-7. But the Cougars countered with a pair of scores in the top of the seventh before the Bears came through with the two runs to win it.

Noble improved to 23-1 with the narrow victory, while Ada fell to 10-12.

“I thought we competed extremely hard and came up with some key hits to give us an opportunity to win. We just came up a little short against a tough Noble team,” said Ada head coach Elliott Alberson. “We are continuing to grow and getting closer to the team that I know we can be.”

The Cougars actually outhit Noble by a 14-10 margin in the see-saw affair but committed two more errors (4-2).

The Ada attack was led by leadoff man Easton Pingleton, who was a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate and scored three runs. Teammate Walker Whitworth, batting in the No. 3 spot, went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in, and Jake Boone was 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored.

Garrett Beam and Tim Simpson also knocked in a run apiece for the Cougars. Beam was 1-for-3 with a double and scored two runs as well. Simpson also scored once.

Ada used four pitchers in the game as Simpson, a reliever in the seventh, was charged with the loss. Seven of the 10 Noble runs were earned.

Caleb Peters blasted two home runs and collected four RBIs to pace the Noble attack. Brady Bradshaw also homered in a 2-for-3 outing for the Bears.

Ada travels to the Cushing Tournament today and meets Blackwell at 5 p.m. in a first-round matchup.

While a questionable call or two certainly didn’t dictate the outcome of Ada’s 10-7 loss to Seminole on Senior Night Tuesday at Cougar Field, one could make a valid argument that it certainly changed the momentum of the game.
