Roff boys fall just short of Class A State Tournament

Durant — Kiowa’s Brycen Overton hit a bucket with six seconds to go as the Cowboys outlasted the Roff Tigers, 34-32, to capture the runner-up title in a Class A boys area basketball contest on Saturday at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Overton tossed in a game-high 16 points and converted four 3-point jumpers in the back-and-forth game.

Senior Cade Carpenter closed out his career with a team-high 11 points while juniors Dalton Madden and Zach Lewis followed with eight and seven points respectively. Hunter Larsh, another junior, chipped in six points off a pair of treys.

“Both teams played well. They made one more play than we did,” said Roff head coach Bo Thomason, whose Tigers ended the season at 22-8. “I wasn’t upset with anything, including our players, effort and game plan.”

Roff had a 26-23 advantage, heading into the fourth. But Kiowa outscored the Tigers by an 11-6 margin in the fourth.

Two seniors – Carpenter and Lonnie Peterson – played their final game on Saturday.

“We’ve got a big group of kids coming back. We’ll have several freshmen ready to make contributions and a couple of eighth graders,” Thomason said. “The future definitely looks bright and we’re looking forward to next year.”

Both Konawa teams fall Saturday

LATTA – Konawa fell into an early 11-3 hole after one quarter and couldn’t recover as the Tigers were eliminated from the Class 2A basketball regionals with a 45-32 loss to Wilson on Saturday at Latta High School.

In an earlier girls elmination game, Healdton pulled away from the Lady Tigers for a 70-41 win.

Wilson 45, Konawa 32

Keedric Emerson tossed in 11 points and Josh Houchin added nine as Wilson earned a trip to the area tournament. Logan Newby and Mason Sanders chipped in eight points apiece. Newby had all of his points in the second half and Sanders popped in a pair of 3-pointers.
