ECU cross-country teams preparing for GAC meet

Ada — WOMEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY

The East Central University women’s cross country team is gearing up for the 2013 Great American Conference Championship hosted by Arkansas Tech, Saturday, Oct. 26 in Russellville, Ark.

The Lady Tigers claimed the 2012 title on their home course, with junior ReGina Germaine earning All-GAC First Team honors after finishing third overall in 19:44.0. Kortney CeBallos and Allison Faircloth are the only returners from the 2012 team. CeBallos finished 54th in 22:52.2 and Faircloth was 67th in 23:50.0.

Germaine has paced ECU for most of the 2013 season, including a fourth-place finish at the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational (Oct. 12).

The race is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at Tucker Coliseum.

 

MEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY

ADA – The East Central University men’s cross country team will be looking to defend its back-to-back Great American Conference titles at the 2013 GAC Championship at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville, Ark. Arkansas Tech is hosting the meet this season, which is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.

The Tigers claimed the title on their home course in 2012 and on the road in 2011. Sophomore Arturo Nava is the top returner from the 2012 team, finishing third overall and earning GAC Freshman of the Year and All-GAC First Team honors with a time of 26:17.4.

Junior Taylor Nasu was 12th in a time of 27:17.0 and sophomore Zacharie Jeandemange was 28th in 28:56.1.

In 2013, the Tigers have been paced by senior William Baldwin and freshman Richard Mora. Baldwin has two top-15 finishes and Mora has led the team in two races. Baldwin’s top finish was at the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational (Oct. 12), where he was seventh in 25:46.0. Mora top finish was 18th at the Midwestern Stampede (Sept. 5) in a time of 20:55.7.

  • Cougs continue to win Ada stretches win streak to seven

    Gabe Simons jump-started the Ada offense with his three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the second before the Cougars pushed across six more runs in the bottom of the fourth, sending Sulphur packing 9-1 Thursday evening at Cougar Field.

Across the way at the A-Town Barber Shop, barber Erick Gray did not even know he owned the record of 146, much less that someone was breaking it.

    The East Central University softball team clinched a spot in the 2014 Great American Conference Tournament with a sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday in Weatherford. The Lady Tigers (25-20, 17-15 GAC) first defeated the Bulldogs (11-33, 7-25 GAC) 9-7 and then 9-0 in five innings in the second day of the series.
