Byng, Stonewall win Monday games

Byng 7, Holdenville 2

BYNG — The Byng Lady Pirates managed just five hits, but it was enough to secure a 7-2 victory over Holdenville in high school softball action Monday.

Rachel Benes (13-16) scattered six hits for the pitching victory, and Rhyann Case went 2-for-3 from the plate with one run batted in, two runs scored and a stolen base.

Also for Byng, Tatum Hill was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored and Lauryn Humphers went 1-for-2 with one RBI and a pair of runs scored. Layna Abbott was 0-for-2, but she scored two runs and had one RBI and a pair of walks.

Byng hosts Ada on Thursday at 3 p.m. for Class 4A District playoff action in a best-of-three series.


Stonewall 4, Tishomingo 1

 STONEWALL — Tana Davis allowed just three hits and Allie Denson went 3-for-3 from the plate with a double and one run batted in as Stonewall upended Tishomingo, 4-1, in a high school softball contest on Monday.

Davis worked all six innings, allowing one earned run with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Though Denson was the Longhorns’ lone multiple hitter, four of her teammates made contributions as Jessika York, Mackenzie Davis, Sarah Monday and Justice Dees were each 1-for-3. York had one triple, one RBI and a run scored. Mackenzie Davis knocked in a run, while Monday and Dees each scored once.

 Stonewall finished with seven hits.

 Davis and company will host a Class A Regional Tournament on Thursday and Friday. The 11th-ranked Lady Longhorns meet Ringling at noon, and No. 5 Healdton battles Moss at 2 p.m. The losers will play at 4 p.m., and the winners will meet at 6 p.m. Friday’s schedule has games at noon and 2 p.m.

    Gabe Simons jump-started the Ada offense with his three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the second before the Cougars pushed across six more runs in the bottom of the fourth, sending Sulphur packing 9-1 Thursday evening at Cougar Field.

    The East Central University softball team clinched a spot in the 2014 Great American Conference Tournament with a sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday in Weatherford. The Lady Tigers (25-20, 17-15 GAC) first defeated the Bulldogs (11-33, 7-25 GAC) 9-7 and then 9-0 in five innings in the second day of the series.
