The Byng Lady Pirates scored four runs in the third and two more in the fifth to earn a 6-1 victory over the Stonewall Lady Longhorns on Monday. “Stonewall is a really good team. It was a good win for us. We are trying to do things right and get ready for playoffs,” stated Coach Andi Hurst after the game.

It looked as though Stonewall would score in the bottom of the second. Jessika York led off the inning with a double to right center. Allie Denson then walked. Both runners moved forward on a sacrifice by Shelby Boudreaux. Katelyn Campise then hit a grounder to second, and Alexis Hill made the throw home to Tasia Nelson who tagged out York at the plate. Denson moved to third, but could not advance any further.
In the top of third Byng plated four runs. Tatum Hill reached on an error. Rhyan Case singled and Nelson reached on a fielder’s choice. Layna Abbott then walked to load the bases. With two outs, Stonewall committed another error on which Case and Nelson scored and Sidney Fuller reached first. A passed ball then scored Abbott for a 3-0 lead. Alexis Hill then had and RBI single to left for a 4-0 Byng lead.
Byng added two more runs in the top of the fifth. Abbott doubled to deep right center, and Fuller followed that up with a double of her own to score Abbott. Alexis Hill singled again and knocked in Fuller before Stonewall retired their third out with Byng leading 6-0.
